Three possible candidates to be the next CIF Southern Section commissioner

Rob Wigod announced Tuesday that the 2022-23 school year will be his last as CIF Southern Section commissioner.

Who will replace him?

Here are three possible candidates to be the section’s next commissioner …

Monica Colunga: She is the principal at Irvine High, a former president of the CIF-SS Council that is the section’s legislative body, and has plenty of experience in CIF State business including serving as president of the CIF State Federated Council. Colunga earned her Doctorate of Education in Educational Administration at UC Irvine.

Reggie Thompkins: He is an associate superintendent in the Corona-Norco Unified School District. Thompkins is a former president of the CIF-SS Council and CIF State Council and was an assistant superintendent in Orange Unified and in the Oceanside district. He earned his doctorate at Brandman University.

Mike West: West is the principal at ML King High School of Riverside. He is a former president of the CIF-SS Executive Committee, a member of the CIF State Executive Committee and a member of the CIF State’s sports medicine advisory committee.

There will be many candidates, all with notable credentials. The three mentioned above might lead the pack.
