As development of the Great Park progresses, Irvine officials are ready to update residents on plans for the “Heart of the Park.”

This phase of the park’s development involves nearly 200 acres and spaces for residents to pause and enjoy the outdoors.

Lakes, the Great Meadow, the Grand Promenade and an amphitheater are part of the plans in this section that will be woven with walking paths as well as places to sit. There will also be the Full Circle Farm.

An updated map of the park and its various sections, including the Heart of the Park, locations where various museums are set to go in the Cultural Terrace and the botanical gardens and veterans memorial park toward the north is also available.

City officials broke ground on the Cultural Terrace earlier this year. It is where Pretend City, Orange County Music & Dance and the Flying Leathernecks Aviation Museum, among others, are set to have locations. Also opened this summer was Great Park Live, the temporary amphitheater, which has been hosting the Pacific Symphony and tribute bands.

The city is hosting a showcase of the Heart in the Park from 1 to 2:30 p.m. on Sept. 17. Park in Lot 8 off Skyhawk and Great Park Boulevard, next to Wild Rivers. Officials encourage shoes suitable for uneven terrain.
