Thanks to its abundance of parks, open spaces and trees, Irvine has been named one of the “Greenest Cities in America” by the finance website WalletHub. The 2024 rankings highlighted Irvine’s fifth-highest percentage of green space, placing the city at No. 10 overall. WalletHub compared the 100 largest cities across 28 key indicators, from greenhouse gas emissions per capita to water quality and green jobs.
Irvine has been environmentally conscious long before it became a priority for other U.S. cities. Sixty years ago, Irvine Company envisioned a livable city featuring parks and open spaces connected by trails and bike paths.
