The designers were not playing around when they planned these ultimate playhouses.

To celebrate its 35th anniversary, HomeAid Orange County brought back its Project Playhouse fundraiser, in which local companies in the homebuilding industry put their skills to work designing and building custom structures that will be auctioned off next month to raise money.

The public can check out the creations – they range from Barbie-themed to a surf shack, and even include a modern dog house – on display at the Irvine Spectrum Center.

Touring the playhouses starts Saturday, Sept. 7, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., and continues on weekends through Oct. 5; cost is $20 a person or $50 for a family of four, though children younger than 5 are free.

The auction will be held Oct. 5.

All the proceeds benefit HomeAid, which has been working to address homelessness in Orange County since 1989.
