The IHOP on MacArthur Blvd. in Irvine will shutter after 32 years in business. It will close its doors permanently on Jan. 29 at 3 p.m.
“This decision was ultimately made for us when we unfortunately lost the lease for this location,” said co-owner Angela EL Haj (who, along with her sister, Mariam, also co-owns Calaca Mamas in Anaheim), in a written statement. “The property owner, which we have had a wonderfully long relationship with, has chosen to move forward with a different tenant who will be able to pay significantly higher rent. While we have no hard feelings and respect their decision, it is a bittersweet moment for our family and team, as this closure marks the end of a cherished chapter in our lives.”

Found at the corner of MacArthur Blvd. and Business Center Dr. across the street from John Wayne Airport, IHOP, formally known as “International House of Pancakes,” served both the community and famished travelers for more than three decades.
No word yet on what restaurant will move into the IHOP’s space.
“Our family business thrived because of your unwavering support, loyalty, and love for our pancakes, and for that, we are forever grateful,” continued EL Haj. “To all who have dined with us over the years, thank you.”
In 2024, a number of family chain restaurants saw a dip in business and outposts. Most notably, El Torito, the Cali-Mexi restaurant owned by Xperience Restaurant Group, shuttered locations in Westminster and at the Dana Point Harbor after 50 and 39 years in business, respectively. And Coco’s closed its Brea location in October after 45 years.
