Four votes separate Melinda Liu and John Park in their race to represent District 1 on the Irvine City Council.
As of Monday night, Liu had received 5,184 votes to Park’s 5,180.
Heading into the weekend, Park had been ahead by a few dozen votes. The Orange County Registrar of Voters will update the vote count again on Tuesday evening as it continues to tally outstanding ballots. More than 170,000 remain to count in OC.
Three other candidates in the race are well behind the leaders.
Newly-drawn District 1 encompasses the city’s northeast portion including areas between Jamboree Road, Irvine Boulevard and Highway 133. Irvine switched from at-large to district council elections this year.
