A 53-year-old man was fatally stabbed in Irvine on Tuesday morning and his roommate is the suspect, police said.

At around 6:20 a.m., police were sent to a single family-home on Fortuna East, according to Irvine Police Department Public Information Officer Kyle Oldoerp. They located a male victim who had been stabbed.

The victim, whose identity was not immediately released, died at the scene.

Detectives found a knife in the home and detained a 22-year-old suspect, Oldoerp said. The other residents of the home were being interviewed as authorities processed  the scene.

Details about the suspect and a potential motive were not immediately available.
