Irvine High junior Harmony Yan-Li was awarded the $6,000 grand prize in the 2024 Discovery Award competition from the Lowell Milken Center for Unsung Heroes for her documentary about Frances Kelsey, a groundbreaking pharmacologist and physician.
Harmony received the award in a ceremony at school, surrounded by classmates, family and educators, including her supervising teacher, Jennifer Harrington. Harmony is the first Discovery Award Grand Prize winner from California. The Lowell Milken Center Discovery Award competition offers students the chance to make projects highlighting the impact one person can have in creating positive change.
